What if "Ike" had been captured? President?

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 08:09:35 AM PDT

When an ex-cheerleader draft dodger is waging a Global War, it only makes sense that his wannabe successor would be a "hero" that never won a battle or a war but whose defining military moment was being captured by the enemy.

Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969), nicknamed "Ike", was a General of the Army (five star general) in the United States Army and U.S. politician, who served as the thirty-fourth President of the United States (1953–1961).

During the Second World War, he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe, with responsibility for planning and supervising the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45. In 1951, he became the first supreme commander of NATO

Pretty darned impressive eh?
The only thing missing from his resume is the fact that he was never captured.
How the Hell did this guy ever get elected?

Imaginary Letter to a Soldier at the Front

Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 09:09:33 PM PDT

My Dearest,
Of course I've been looking forward to your next trip home, I miss you so much. 4 years is a long time. However, I've been thinking that maybe we should meet in another place, perhaps Europe or Canada.

This is very difficult to say to you my Dear but, the way of life that they sent you off to defend no longer exists.

I've been talking to the new bank that just bought our old bank and I'm saddened to tell you that they will be starting foreclosure on the farm as soon as the flood waters go down. Remember the muskrat that lived in the old levee you were after last time you were home. Well, he won.  Most of the family photos and old movies were ruined.  I watched our past and our future disappear in one day. Maybe it's time to start over somewhere else.

Happy B'day, George. Not teh stoopid George, the smart one. Orwell

George Orwell
Date of Birth: 25 June 1903

If you simplify your English, you are freed from the worst follies of orthodoxy. You cannot speak any of the necessary dialects, and when you make a stupid remark its stupidity will be obvious, even to yourself.
Political language -- and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists -- is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. One cannot change this all in a moment, but one can at least change one's own habits, and from time to time one can even, if one jeers loudly enough, send some worn-out and useless phrase -- some jackboot, Achilles' heel, hotbed, melting pot, acid test, veritable inferno, or other lump of verbal refuse -- into the dustbin, where it belongs.

John McCain: A Punk and A Mean Little F*cker

Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 09:46:15 PM PDT

   Just ask his schoolmates...

A classmate, Malcolm Matheson, described him as a "tough, mean little fucker", according to Robert Timberg’s ‘The Nightingale’s Song.

McCain’s nicknames at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, were Punk, Nasty and McNasty.

Prior to attending EHS, McCain was bounced from school to school as a result of his father's military career. McCain wrote of his early education in his autobiograpy.

My first purpose during my brief stay in these schools was to impress upon my classmates that I was not a person to suffer slights lightly. My second purpose was to prove myself as an athlete. When I was disciplined by my teachers, which happened regularly, it was often for fighting."
McCain, Faith of My Fathers, p. 100.

Meet the Governor of the 51st State, my Nephew Nick Messenger

Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 10:34:39 AM PDT

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Lots of good news from Ohio lately.  Several polls now show Obama in the lead.  I think this is largely attributable to the "Youth Vote".  Obama has gotten those pesky kids interested in politics and I'm very proud to say that my nephew (actually grand-nephew) is one.

Every year since 1936, 1,400 Ohio High School Seniors travel to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio to participate in Buckeye Boys State, a nine-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government.

For the first time ever, Bowling Green can officially claim one of its own as Governor of Buckeye Boys State.
Nicholas Messenger, a rising senior at Bowling Green High School and a representative of the Federalist party for BBS, is set to be inaugurated at this evening's ceremony at Anderson Arena.

A Warning to Fathers, Protect Your Daughter. By Any Means

Sun Jun 15, 2008 at 07:20:19 AM PDT

Though I tried, I failed.
I am holding her last Father's Day card to me.
She was murdered in March of 2007.

If your daughter is friends with, dating or married to anyone that shows the following signs, you must do "all that is within your power" to protect your daughter.

Do not assume that the authorities will help you. They failed my daughter miserably.

Dad, take all measures to protect her from anyone that exhibits any of these behaviors.

UPDATED: Ohio AG told to resign or be impeached

Mon May 05, 2008 at 09:48:48 AM PDT

TOLEDO BLADE- COLUMBUS - Democrats promised to hold themselves to a "higher standard" in 2006 as they rode Republican scandal into office, so some are openly questioning whether the new Democratic regime has surrendered the moral high ground with its first major scandal.

The questions go beyond whether Attorney General Marc Dann can politically survive his admission Friday that his own extramarital affair with an employee may have contributed to an atmosphere in his office that led to accusations that a top aide sexually harassed two state employees.

UPDATE:

COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland and other high-ranking Ohio Democrats Monday joined Republicans in the chorus for Attorney General Marc Dann to immediately resign and threatened to lead the march toward impeachment if he does not. Mr. Dann refused to step down in two phone conversations Sunday with the governor and again in a statement released Monday.

My Spiritual Mentor, The Chink

Sat May 03, 2008 at 07:00:32 AM PDT

I sneezed 13 times in rapid succession this morning. Not just your little golf sneezes into closed hands mind you, but body wracking man-sneezes that sprayed spittle and sputum hither, thither and even yon. Tears not only ran down my face, tears broad-jumped from my chin onto my chest and swam south eventually pooling in my navel. It was the triathlon of tears.

I contemplated this and concluded that this sneezing was indeed very mysterious, and since we are taught God works in mysterious ways, it must be divine.

Blinded by the tsunami of tears that now formed a salt-water sea in my bellybutton where millions of my DNA molecules frolicked ecstatically like Spring Breakers high on PNA (Peptide Nucleic Acid), I reached for my handy-dandy Bible.

With closed eyes, I opened the book to a random page and with my finger, blindly selected a passage for spiritual guidance. As I waited for my eyes to clear, I wondered if this is how God selects where a lightning bolt will strike during a thunderstorm, or if he intends that an occasional church steeple gets zapped along with a few unfortunate parishioners.

As my eyes cleared, I struggled to read these words...

HRC: Pimp My Chopper, How 2 turn 5K into 6 Billion

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 02:52:50 AM PDT

Did W. need a new chopper?
                    or..
Was HRC kicking tires for her new ride?

Marine One Presidential Helicopter

"They could have taken any old Black Hawk helicopter, put a nice interior in it and a decal on it, and it would've been OK. Instead, we got this thing that costs four times as much. It's nuts."

An earmark from Hillary requested a new ride that costs 400 freaking million American dollars for one helicopter.
More than the Boeing 747 used as Air Force One.

On Tibet and Propaganda: Follow the "Information"

PROPAGANDA- ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause.

The propaganda war is on and there are two sides to this coin.

Point in fact for the purpose of this discussion: The Chinese media is controlled by the communist government. No question. Do they use their media to further their cause? Certainly.

Who is on the other side of the coin?

Tibet was "not" Shangrila: Rare film from 1950's

I thought I would post this today so that Kossacks will have some knowledge of historical conditions in Tibet.

Some will say, "But it's from CCTV, therefore it is propaganda."
Watch and judge for yourself.

The 25 minute documentary includes rare archived film footage from the 1950's and recent follow up interviews with survivors that are seen in the film.

In a political move that received little if any attention by the American news media, the United States and Canada entered into a military agreement on February 14, 2008, allowing the armed forces from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a domestic civil emergency, even one that does not involve a cross-border crisis, according to a police commander involved in homeland security planning and implementation.

Buddhism is so cool. But....

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 05:47:55 AM PDT

Yes, it is. A very cool religion.
But there is a problem that we Americans need to explore as a Democratic nation founded on the principles of Separation of Church and State and Freedom of Religion..
How does Tibet survive politically in a modern world?
Should the spiritual leader of Buddhism be a political leader?
